Family Medicine physician with OB training – Kodiak, Alaska

Kodiak, Alaska — Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center is partnering with a local community health center to bring a Family Medicine physician with OB training to join an outstanding care team on amazing Kodiak Island. Ideal candidate will have experience or be comfortable treating complex patient cases in both the hospital and outpatient setting. Great opportunity to provide care from newborn through geriatrics. ER shifts are also available if desired. The clinic is well supported, it has mental health and orthopedics local support, general surgery backup, and also has a two-bed ICU wired to the Providence Anchorage campus for coverage. Clinic has a functioning EMR with EPIC. Loan repayment for new grads or recruitment bonus for experienced physicians is available via the state-run SHARP program.  Generous compensation plus vacation and full benefits.

As the only hospital on Kodiak Island, Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center is truly a “critical access” hospital accredited by The Joint Commission and designated as a Level IV trauma center by the State of Alaska. The 25-acute-bed facility plays an indispensable role in the lives of nearly 14,000 residents in the city of Kodiak, the Coast Guard base and neighboring villages. With an MRI, 64-slice CT and other state-of-the-art equipment, our physicians and a cadre of visiting specialists are able to provide advanced care right here in Kodiak. The hospital receives high marks from patients, physicians and employees alike.

Alaska offers financial, cultural and recreational opportunities beyond compare. There is no state income or sales tax; in fact the state pays every Alaskan a yearly dividend from oil revenues! Kodiak is famous for its fishing, huge Kodiak brown bears and lush forested mountains. But Kodiak Islanders also pride themselves on lesser known features: excellent public and private schools, organized youth sports, several churches, museums, and dozens of community events. The island’s tight-knit population of 14,000 residents is surprisingly diverse, with significant groups of Alaska Natives, Asians, Hispanics and Pacific Islanders. Nature is never far away in Kodiak. Within minutes of the hospital you can be beachcombing, jogging through a magnificent forest, or fighting a feisty salmon on a pristine stream.
