Official Position Title: Physician-Family Practitioner

 

Position Summary:

Family Practice physicians provide a wide range of health care, including primary outpatient care, hospital care, and emergency services at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital to patients of all ages.  Serve as community liaison and referral physician for a geographic region of Southeast Alaska.

 

Position Complexities:

Requires high level decision making across a full spectrum of medicine involving infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.  Provides medical advice to practitioners in the throughout Southeast Alaska, from community health aides to midlevel practitioners to physicans in the smaller clinics.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Duty/Responsibility #1 (20  %):Provides comprehensive clinical health care services to inpatients of Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital.  Includes evaluations, clinical analysis, diagnostic decision making and treatment recommendations for a wide range of patients, including critically ill patients.

Duty/Responsibility #2 (40  %): Practices comprehensive medical care to outpatients, including evaluations, clinical analysis, treatment recommendations, and preventative health care.

Duty/Responsibility #3 ( 10 %): Serves as consultative liason to village health care providers and referral physicians throughout Southeast Alaska.  This may include field visits to remote locations.  At physician’s discretion, s/he may participate in developing and coordinating local and village EMS programs.

Duty/Responsibility #4 ( 10 %):  Rotate through emergency call schedule to provide 24 hour emergency coverage for the hospital emergency room, inpatients, and consultative phone calls from throughout Southeast Alaska.

Duty/Responsibility #5  (10 %): Participate in all medical staff functions as requested, to include quality assurance reviews and meetings.  Serve as chief of service as assigned by the medical director, providing clinical leadership to the service and collaborating with other hospital and corporate staff who work within the service.

Duty/Responsibility #6 (10 %):  Abide by medical staff by-laws, rules and regulations, and clinical services policies/procedures.
