Physician – Clinical Research – Full Time – Liver Disease & Hepatitis, Anchorage, AK

JOB SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, cares for patients with liver disease and conducts clinical research studies on liver disease.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Participates in the design, initiation, and coordination of clinical research, to include authoring grant applications and research protocols and the collection, management, analysis, and interpretation of data and report preparation related to such activities.

Participates in clinical trials and in their design and development, and coordinates the implementation, evaluation, and improvement of strategies to prevent and control disease risk factors. May participate in laboratory research appropriate to these investigations and studies. Provides primary supervision of research and direct patient care.

Develops, maintains, enhances, and extends expertise and in-depth knowledge to include management of patients statewide with acute and chronic hepatitis. Performs clinical services as assigned by diagnosing and managing liver diseases. Performs medical procedures including EGD, liver biopsies and other specialty internal medicine procedures.

Evaluates and provides care for patients with liver disease or abnormal liver function tests. Independently sees patients with liver disease, performs evaluations, and recommends treatment.

Provides consultation for in- and out-patients by telephone and at field clinics held throughout the Alaska Tribal Health System.

Engages in development of public health policy matters through participation in seminars, conferences, meetings, hearings, and presentations involving problems or issues of considerable importance. Participates in seminars and programs in scientific settings, including national and international scientific meetings.

Authors, reviews and edits manuscripts for professional publications for technical content and policy considerations. Engages in teaching and training of health professionals including health-care workers. Directs and coordinates the preparation of public health education materials and gives presentations, advice, and information to constituent groups including broadcast, print media, and the general public.

Practices in accordance with applicable laws such as client confidentiality, Americans with Disabilities Act, abuse reporting, principles of consent and advanced medical directives. Respects the privacy rights of individuals and families; provided services in accordance with ethical principles.

Maintains close contact with EIS Hub Site personnel to assure client care needs are met and that HRSA reporting requirements are performed.

Provides leadership, direction, and guidance to assigned staff.  Develops goals and priorities in conjunction with employees, and assigns tasks and projects.  Develops staff skills and training plans.  Counsels, trains, and coaches subordinate staff.  Implements corrective actions and conducts performance evaluations.

Performs other duties as assigned.
