.EOE..Community, Facility and Organization. The Mat-SuValley is your place for an active lifestyle and non-stop adventure. Conveniently located 35 miles north of Anchorage, your Alaska experience begins when you get to the Mat-Su valley. Spend a day exploring HatcherPass, test your luck fishing or take advantage of the bountiful hiking. Experience world-class hiking, biking, skiing, mountain climbing, white water rafting, fishing, hunting, trail riding, snow machining and even sea kayaking. Alaska is an outdoor recreational paradise!

Mat-Su Regional Medical Center’s history began in 1935 when President FDR relocated stricken farmers from Minnesota to the lush MatanuskaValley as part of his “New Deal.” These “colonists” founded the “NewColonyHospital” in Palmer, AK to serve the Matanuska Colony and area Natives, miners, trappers and farmers. The name of the facility changed to ValleyHospital in 1947, when Valley Hospital Association (VHA) was incorporated as a not-for-profit hospital. An outpatient center was added in 1989 in Wasilla, AK to accommodate space for physician practices and to provide health care services to the growing population of the Matanuska-Susitna (Mat-Su) Borough. VHA entered into a joint venture with a for-profit partner in December 2003 in order to build a new hospital. The new hospital was named Mat-SuRegionalMedicalCenter and opened in January 2006. The new hospital is a state of the art 74-bed acute care hospital with a 14-bed ICU, a 20-bed Emergency Department, a 10-LDRP birthing center, a cardiac cath lab, a well-equipped and fully digital OR with 4 rooms including daVinci and Hana modalities, an outpatient surgery center and three outpatient centers. The medical center has about 100 physicians on active medical staff and a total medical staff of almost 200 physicians. We have a robust Hospitalist and an Intensivist program. Alaska offers among the best reimbursement rates in the country, low malpractice rates and is very business friendly.

The Palmer/Wasilla area is a suburban community of approximately 89,000 and is the fastest growing community in the state. The area is commonly called the Mat-Su valley. According to the state Department of Labor, the Mat-Su valley is one of Alaska and the Nations most ‘robust’ economies, boasting job growth and an a steady increase in the population. Over the last decade the valley’s population increased by 42 percent and the number of jobs almost doubled. Mat-Su valley’s job growth is in diverse areas including businesses starting up and expanding, such as those in the retail and health care sectors. The economy has also grown in areas related to the oil and mining industries. We are also an attractive bed-room community for those who work in Anchorage but want to make their home close to the rich activities associated with living in the Mat-Su valley. We are 40 minutes from downtown Anchorage boasting an international airport, over 650 restaurants, a philharmonic orchestra, Ballet Company, live theatre, and countless cultural events. Alaska is a wealthy State with no income tax and is truly America’s last frontier!

Valdez, Alaska – Providence Valdez Medical Center and a private practice in Valdez are partnering to bring a new Family Physician to serve a unique Alaskan community located 300 road-miles from Anchorage. Utilize all your skills and training to provide full spectrum healthcare to people through all walks of life, including primary care, pediatrics, ER, inpatient, obstetrics (optional), long term care and limited surgical procedures (optional). New physician can step right into a full-time or part-time patient load. Call is 1:5 days and vacation time is relatively flexible and easy to arrange. Competitive salary provided with productivity bonus and an opportunity for partnership, if desired.

About the Providence Facility

Providence Valdez Medical Center is licensed for 21 beds and has an active medical staff of four. Our remote critical access hospital on Prince William Sound offers physicians the opportunity to experience a quality rural community practice as well as Alaska in all its glory. Valdez is well off the beaten path, although we are connected by the road system to Fairbanks and Anchorage. Providence Valdez Medical Center’s modern technology and excellent team of providers and support staff allow us to provide personal, compassionate care that is also clinically excellent.

About the Area

Alaska offers financial, cultural and recreational opportunities beyond compare. There is no state income or sales tax; in fact the state pays every Alaskan a yearly dividend from oil revenues!

Valdez is known locally as the Switzerland of Alaska thanks to the towering peaks that frame the area. It is more widely known for its critical deep-water port where oil tankers pick up Alaska crude and supply ships bring goods bound for Interior Alaska. Valdez is also home to a major commercial fishing fleet. About 4,350 year-round residents keep this busy, beautiful place buzzing. Valdezans tend to spend their off time enjoying their stunningly beautiful surroundings. Winter draws snow junkies for some of the best heli-skiing in the world, and those preferring a gentler pace have miles of outstanding cross country and snowshoeing trails. Scenes from The Sound of Music could have been filmed in the hills above Valdez, where the snow gives way to lush summer grasses and berries in this temperate coastal zone. Meanwhile, in town, there’s a swimming pool, climbing wall and racquetball courts, as well as playgrounds, a library and museums.

About Providence Health & Services

Providence Health & Services is a not-for-profit network of hospitals, clinics and physician partners in Alaska, California, Montana, Oregon and Washington. We have been providing high-quality, compassionate care in the West for more than 150 years, and we continue to grow with the communities we serve.

With around 300 physician and advanced practice provider opportunities in virtually all specialties at any given time, we offer diverse locations, lifestyles and practice models. Let us help you find your perfect practice!
